• For the Rights of Nature: A European Citizens’ Initiative
A broad spectrum of EU citizens is united by the conviction that nature deserves more respect for its integrity than current laws afford it. The European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) “Rights for Nature” aims to change that. With one million signatures collected across EU member states, we can compel the European Commission to develop a new legal framework that recognizes ecosystems as rights-holders. This transformation is rooted in democratic principles, supported by significant legal precedents, and driven by citizens who believe that a shared future with nature is possible—but not at nature’s expense.
The European Citizens’ Initiative “Rights for Nature” is officially registered with the European Commission and will begin collecting signatures in the fall of 2026.
