About

The Rights of Nature Day initiative is a fairly new group of people from various regions, initiatives and organisations in Austria. The Day and the Declaration were initiated by Norbert Mayr [forum for ecosocial transformation] and launched together with the Austrian youth biodiversity network GYBN Austria. 

Although Austria is a nation of nature-lovers, the Rights of Nature movement is still in its infancy in our beautiful country. The Rights of Nature Day, on the September equinox, is intended to draw attention to the subject, and to create a space for networking and communal activities.

In line with the Global Alliance for the Rights of Nature (GARN), we call for the establishment of a legal framework in Austria for the recognition of ecosystems as legal persons with the right to life, restoration and development.
